Ballet Theatre of Ohio’s collaboration with Akron Public Schools serves as many as 2,000 Akron school students each year in a program titled “Take Me Out to the Ballet”. Since 1999, more than 30,000 children have been exposed to the wonderful world of classical music and dance.
Ballet Theatre of Ohio productions are more than just a ballet - they are an experience! Upon arriving at the magnificent Akron Civic Theatre, our audience will feel the magic immediately as they step into the main lobby. Every production features a themed room which will take children on a magical journey. Our Nutcracker features a Santa's workshop complete with elves, reindeer and Santa himself! Next door to the workshop was an amazing presentation of the most beautiful gingerbread "mansions". At the top of the grand staircase, people can be seen taking their traditional family picture in front of the 10 ft. Christmas tree, filled with nothing but Nutcrackers. Across the way little ones delight in skipping down Candy Land Hopscotch Lane. Our spring ballet interactives are themed to the current production. Make sure to visit our Facebook page for some wonderful photos of these interactives!
An integral part of our outreach since our inception, the Girl Scout Program provides ballet enrichment in conjunction with live performances of our story ballets. Girl Scouts have the opportunity to purchase admission tickets at reduced rates and receive commemorative patches at the performance.
BTO has established several youth outreach programs with many local non-profit organizations. Past collaborators include: Akron Public Schools, Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, Akron Symphony Orchestra, Akron Youth Symphony, Akron After School, Girl Scouts of North East Ohio and Relay for Life. BTO has participated in special programming for Akron Children’s Hospital and Medical Center’s Tree Festival, the City of Akron’s Countdown to First Night, Kids Faire, WKDD Kids Day, Holiday Parade and Akron’s Hardesty Park Arts Fest.
